Fowler White Burnett Attorney Wins First ABA & SEALI Young Lawyers Writing Competition

Miami, FL – Fowler White Burnett attorney, Christine M. Walker, has won the first Young Lawyers Writing Competition, a collaboration of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section Admiralty and Maritime Law Committee and the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute (SEALI).

The competition required attorneys to identify and describe the most important circuit court splits in maritime law, where federal appellate courts disagree about a substantive legal issue. These are considered by the industry to be legal issues that are ripe for review and determination by the Supreme Court of the United States in the coming years.

The competition was open to young lawyers throughout the United States. Both SEALI and ABA judges for the competition said they were impressed by the quality of its entries.

Walker will present her paper at SEALI’s annual conference in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 28, 2014.

Walker is an associate in Fowler White Burnett’s Maritime Practice Group, where she focuses her practice on all aspects of Admiralty Law. She received her LL.M. in Admiralty from Tulane University Law School, her J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center, and a B.B.A. from the University of Miami. Walker also holds a Certificate in Financial Regulatory Law & Policy from Washington College of Law Summer Institute and a Certificate in Admiralty & International Law of the Seas from Tulane University Law School, Study Abroad Program.

An active volunteer within the South Florida community, she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2009 by the United Way of Broward County, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the Humane Society of Broward County. As a member of the Sunflower Circle, Walker works with the Children’s Diagnostic Treatment Center, a volunteer group that serves children with chronic illnesses.
