Richard J. Block, a shareholder in Fowler White Burnett's Immigration Practice Group, represents individuals and corporations in a broad range of industries before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Labor, in connection with obtaining both temporary work visas and permanent residence. He also counsels clients on compliance with ever-changing employment laws regarding foreign workers, including I-9 training and audits.
Richard, who is fluent in spoken Japanese, also served as General Counsel for Nissin Foods (U.S.A.) Co., Inc., a subsidiary of Nissin Foods Holdings Co., Ltd., a large multi-national corporation based in Tokyo, Japan with worldwide operations. During his tenure with Nissin Foods, he handled all immigration matters involving the transfer of Japanese nationals from the parent company to the U.S. and to this day he continues to represent the Nissin Group with respect to all such transfers. Other representative clients include Konica Minolta Group, Nippon Express USA, L’Oreal USA, Benetton USA, Minacs Group USA, National Beverage Corp. and Zeppelin Systems USA.
He has been invited to speak on business immigration issues by professional organizations such as the Society of Human Resources Management — Danbury Chapter, Connecticut Association of School Personnel Administrators and the Association of Corporate Counsel — New Jersey and Westchester /Connecticut chapters.
Richard has focused his practice on business immigration law for the past twenty years. He advises foreign nationals seeking to work in the United States, in addition to foreign investors, and domestic and international companies who wish to hire the most highly skilled individuals from around the world. Specialties include obtaining E-1 and E-2 visas, EB-5 visas, H-1B visas, L-1A and L-1B visas, O visas, TN visas, consular processing, and employment-based immigrant visas in all different categories and naturalization.
