Fowler White Shareholder Christine M. Walker's article "A Word About SWIFT Accounts and Crew Pay..." has been published in the March 14, 2022 edition of the Bitter End Bulletin.

Christine serves as co-Editor of The Bitter End Bulletin, published by the Committee on Maritime Torts and Casualties of the Maritime Law Association of the United States.

SWIFT accounts provide an international network enabling secure money transfers. The recent economic sanctions by a few NATO countries have resulted in the removal of select Russian banks from the SWIFT system. Consequently, issues may develop pertaining to making wage payments to crewmembers who have elected to have their wages deposited into a Russian bank removed from the SWIFT system.
