Fowler White Burnett, P.A. has announced that Mr. Román Ortega-Cowan and Mr. Gil O. Acevedo have joined the firm as Associates located in its Miami office.
Mr. Ortega-Cowan is a cum laude graduate of Florida State University College of Law, and he also received his Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Philosophy from Boston College. During law school, he served as Editor-in-Chief of Law Review and interned with the Honorable John Antoon II (U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida).
Prior to joining Fowler White Burnett, Mr. Ortega-Cowan practiced with a national law firm and served as staff attorney to an anti-human trafficking non-profit organization. Mr. Ortega-Cowan is an active member of the Florida Bar Association, American Bar Association, Cuban-American Bar Association and the International Bar Association. Within the International Bar Association, he is a member of the War Crimes Committee, Human Rights Institute and North American Regional Forum.
Mr. Acevedo has joined the firm’s Miami office as an Associate in the Real Estate Practice Group. Mr. Acevedo brings to the firm over eight years of experience representing clients in transactions involving commercial leasing, acquisition lending and refinance, commercial eviction, condominium law, and the purchase and sale of office buildings, shopping centers, gas stations, apartment buildings and luxury homes.
In addition to his professional legal work, Mr. Acevedo works with Florida International University’s Law Bridge Legal Residence Program conducting lectures on real estate law. He was recognized by Florida Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in the area of real estate for 2009 through 2011 and previously served as Chair of Miami-Dade County Bar Association’s Real Property Committee.
Mr. Acevedo received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida and his Juris Doctor, with Distinction, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where he served in its Law Review, Journal of Practical and Clinical Law and Moot Court Board. After law school, he received a Master of Laws in Real Property Development from the University of Miami.
