Fowler White Shareholder Alyssa R. Wan presented “Charitable Giving Tax Strategies - aka - How Do I Claim The Deduction,” at the TTN 2024 Americas Conference “Taxing the Canvas: Understanding the Art of International Tax” held on May 17, 2024 at the Rubell Museum in Miami.
Alyssa’s presentation focused on gifts of artwork and explained how to properly claim and substantiate the charitable income tax deduction based upon recent guidance from the U.S. Tax Court, as well as common techniques and pitfalls to avoid regarding both inter vivos and testamentary giving planning options.
Alyssa is a shareholder in the Firm's Tax, and Trust and Estates Practice Groups. She serves as Co-Vice Chair to The Real Property, Probate & Trust Law (RPPTL) Section of the Florida Bar’s Charitable Planning and Exempt Organizations Committee and is a member of the Florida Bar's Tax Law Section. Alyssa works closely with clients to form and provide ongoing counsel to not for profits, private foundations and public charities, and to incorporate charitable giving in their estate plans. Additionally, she has developed a special expertise in assisting clients to carry out their charitable goals by supporting non-U.S. charities and activities, by forming U.S. foundations, preparing equivalency determination letters or applying for private letter rulings. Alyssa also handles a variety of domestic and international matters for high-net-worth individuals and families, such as structuring and preparing sophisticated estate plans and trust agreements, structuring investment in and transfer of U.S. real property by non-residents, pre-immigration planning and estate planning involving multinational families and investments.
