Shareholder Alyssa R. Wan was a Panelist at the ALFA International 2024 International Client Seminar held February 29-March 3, 2024 at the El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.
Presenting on corporate foundations and international philanthropy, Alyssa was part of a panel of experienced lawyers that discussed timely topics and provided practical tips for those seeking to establish structures for giving or otherwise benefiting the public. The panel, “Beyond Courtrooms and Closings: An Exchange of Ideas on Corporate Citizenship and Giving,” included the following topics:
- trends relating to “corporate social responsibility,” “ESG,” “international philanthropy” and “public benefit corporations”;
- navigating alternative methods and relevant tax, legal and governance requirements of philanthropic endeavors; and
- relevant portions of the new U.S Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), and how the CTA impacts international giving programs or businesses with operations or investments in the United States.
Alyssa is a shareholder in the Firm's Tax, and Trust and Estates Practice Groups. She is a member of the Florida Bar's Tax Law Section and serves as Co-Vice Chair to The Real Property, Probate & Trust Law (RPPTL) Section of the Florida Bar’s Charitable Planning and Exempt Organizations Committee. Alyssa handles a variety of domestic and international matters for high-net-worth individuals and families, such as structuring and preparing sophisticated estate plans and trust agreements, structuring investment in and transfer of U.S. real property by non-residents, pre-immigration planning and estate planning involving multinational families and investments. She works closely with clients to form and provide ongoing counsel to not for profits, private foundations and public charities. Additionally, she has developed a special expertise in assisting clients to carry out their charitable goals by supporting non-U.S. charities and activities, either by forming U.S. foundations or preparing equivalency determination letters.
