Miami, FL – Fowler White Burnett has hired attorneys Daniel B. Allison, Albert Alvarez, Edward "Ted" J. McNamara, Stephen P. Smith, Perry F. Sofferman and Isaura Velez as part of the firm’s further expansion across multiple practice areas.
Allison works in the firm’s Insurance Practice Group, handing a wide range of matters for clients, including major domestic life and casualty insurers, international underwriters and self-insureds, as well as multimillion-dollar corporations and business policyholders.
Alvarez is a member of the Firm’s Commercial Litigation and Medical Malpractice practice groups. His experience includes handling a broad range of real estate-related disputes, defending employers in labor and employment litigation, assisting in the administration of class action multi-district litigation settlements and defending medical malpractice claims.
McNamara is a member of the firm’s Insurance practice group. He has represented clients in various civil actions, including ERISA disability insurance, breach of contract, insurance coverage, and bad faith, within both federal and state court. He handles all aspects of litigation and settlement negotiations.
Smith, a member of the firm’s Medical Malpractice group, focuses his practice on medical malpractice matters, providing litigation support for every type of medical malpractice action, from pre-suit screening, through trial, to post-trial appeals.
Sofferman, a shareholder of the firm, practices Corporate, Intellectual Property and International law. He represents clients in the following areas: business transactions including corporate structuring and acquisitions, trademark, copyright, licensing, social media, software, publishing, Internet, privacy, HIPAA, technology and export compliance.
He previously served as General Counsel for a technology manufacturer and Counsel for Scholastic Inc., the Fortune 1000 global media and publishing company. Perry has negotiated the agreements for several of the most successful properties in publishing history. As a practitioner with extensive in-house experience, he brings a unique perspective to the needs of his clients and focuses on practical solutions, risk avoidance and strategic planning.
Velez practices in the firm’s Corporate, International and Intellectual Property practice groups, where she assists in a broad range of matters, including corporate formation and maintenance, corporate structuring, drafting international agreements, application and prosecution of trademarks in the United States, as well as the management of trademark portfolios for clients worldwide. Isaura also dedicates a substantial part of her practice to the enforcement of clients’ trademark rights under public international law.
