Fowler White Burnett today announced that Matthew Valcourt has been appointed to the Massachusetts Maritime Alumni Association Advisory Board. The firm also announced that Valcourt was elected by the Fort Lauderdale Mariner's Club as program chairman for 2009.
Valcourt, who works in the firm's Miami office, focuses his practice on maritime law. He handles litigation and transactional matters for commercial and pleasure vessels.
He is a member of The Florida Bar's Trial Law Section and Admiralty Law Committee, and he is a board member of its Admiralty & Maritime Law Certification Committee.
He is also a member of the Cuban American Bar Association, the Maritime Law Association, Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, Counsel of American Master Mariners, Fort Lauderdale Mariner’s Club and the Propeller Club.
Valcourt holds a law degree from the New England School of Law and a bachelor's degree from Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
The Massachusetts Maritime Alumni Association Advisory Board provides support and ideas to the board of the Massachusetts Maritime Association Foundation, which is responsible for managing donations and honoring wishes attached to any gift to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The Foundation sponsors and hosts the MMA Admiral's Ball, an annual fundraising event honoring a maritime or business leader, and solicits donations to fund its endowment.
The Fort Lauderdale Mariner’s Club is an association of members of the marine insurance industry and related marine industries dedicated to the exchange of information and maintenance of ethical business practice within the marine industry.
