Fowler White Burnett today announced that Matthew J. Valcourt has been elected Secretary for the Ft. Lauderdale Mariner’s Club for 2009-2010. His responsibilities will include overseeing the group’s monthly newsletter and distributing announcements for all club events.
Valcourt, a shareholder in the firm’s Miami office, focuses his practice on maritime law, specifically litigation and transactions for commercial and pleasure vessels.
The Ft. Lauderdale Mariner's Club is a non-profit, non-political organization devoted to the promotion of friendly associations among its members. The club encourages high standards of business practice throughout the community and provides a forum to improve the marine industry in South Florida.
Valcourt is a member of The Florida Bar’s Trial Law Section and Admiralty Law Committee. He is also a member of the Cuban American Bar Association, the Maritime Law Association, Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, Counsel of American Master Mariners, Fort Lauderdale Mariner’s Club, the Propeller Club, the Port of Tampa, the Massachusetts Maritime Alumni Association Advisory Board, and the Fort Lauderdale Mariner’s Club.
Valcourt holds a law degree from New England School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Massachusetts Maritime Academy.He is also a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Master.
