The Florida Legal Elite 2019 represents a prestigious roster of 1,126 attorneys from across the state of Florida chosen for recognition by their peers as lawyers who exemplify a standard of excellence in their profession and by so doing, have garnered the respect and esteem of their colleagues. The resulting Florida Legal Elite list represents just over 1% of the active Florida Bar members who practice in Florida.
Susan H. Aprill, a shareholder in the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group, was recently reappointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to the Fourth District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission for a four-year term beginning July 1, 2019. Aprill practices civil litigation, including, among other matters, real estate litigation, business disputes of all types, defense of officers and directors of condominium and homeowner associations, defamation cases, employment law, and complex damages cases including those arising in wrongful death cases. She has also served as a court-appointed receiver and arbitrator and has been appointed a special master and mediator in various matters. Aprill is also active on the Florida Bar's Media & Communications Law Committee and is a longstanding contributor to the Reporter's Handbook. In May 2019, she presented to the Florida Judicial College of Advanced Judicial Studies on matters concerning confidentiality, privacy and access to courts and court records.
Alice K. Sum is a shareholder in the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group where she represents businesses and individuals in complex, commercial disputes. She has significant experience litigating multi-party cases concerning director and officer liability, errors and omissions, shareholder derivative claims, and class actions. A portion of Sum's practice involves the defense and prosecution of intellectual property matters. Sum is a member of the 17th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission. She is highly active in The Florida Bar where she serves as Vice-Chair of the Judicial Nominating Procedures Committee and on the 17th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee "I".
