The Firm is pleased to announce that Shareholder, Alice K. Sum, has been appointed by Governor Rick Scott to the Seventeenth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission (“JNC”) for a term ending July 1, 2022. JNCs are a nonpartisan nine-member commission of lawyers and non-lawyers who locate, recruit, investigate and evaluate applicants for judicial office. Commission members submit names of the most highly qualified applicants to the Governor, who makes the final selection from the list.
Alice K. Sum is a Shareholder in Fowler White’s Commercial Litigation practice group where she represents clients in a wide range of complex business disputes, including multi-party litigation concerning director and officer liability, intellectual property, banking and financial services, and real estate issues.
Sum currently serves on The Florida Bar’s 17th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee "I", and the Judicial Nominating Procedures Committee. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Dade County Bar Association, State and Federal Court Judicial Liaison Co-Chair for the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, and past-president of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida. Sum received her J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and her B.A., with honors, from the University of Florida.
