Susan H. Aprill, a Shareholder in Fowler White Burnett’s Commercial Litigation practice group, has been appointed by Florida Governor Rick Scott to the Fourth District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission for a four-year term beginning July 12, 2016. The Florida Judicial Nominating Commission is responsible for providing the governor of Florida with a list of well-qualified candidates for appointment to the Fourth District Court of Appeal.
Aprill has practiced civil litigation since 1982, including employment, consumer and probate litigation. In recent years, she has served as court-appointed receiver for a medical billing service, a mobile home park and a luxury rental property in foreclosure. She has also served as a court-appointed arbitrator on a panel deciding a medical practice dispute and has been appointed a special master and mediator in various matters. Aprill has and continues to represent limousine and for-hire service companies in employment matters; reporters, broadcasters and publishers in First Amendment libel and public access cases; officers and directors of condominium and homeowner associations; financial institutions and private lenders in foreclosure and intra-institutional litigation, real estate developers and owners; doctors and other health care providers, and a variety of domestic and foreign businesses across multiple industries in commercial matters often of a complex nature.
Aprill received her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law, cum laude, and her Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois. She has been recognized as an AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell and has also been recognized by Florida Trend Magazine’s Legal Elite for the last four consecutive years. She is the co-author of chapters on defamation and reporter's privilege in the Florida Bar's Reporter's Handbook.
